Sharmila steals the show

Chennai: Sharmila Nicollet, a 15-year-old golfer from Bangalore, returned with a gross 75, the best card, on the penultimate day of the Madras Ladies Championship at the Cosmo-TNGF course here on Thursday.

The overnight leader, Vaishavi Sinha, carded a six over (gross 78) and Meghna Bal of Delhi a five over (gross 77).

Rupa Gurunath (Chennai) is leading in the Handicap category of the Gold division, going into the final round.

Aruna Kolandaivel (Coimbatore) leads in the Silver division with a 257 gross, followed by Aditi Mehta (Pune) and Anita Srinivasan (Chennai).

The Open and Handicap winner in the Bronze division was Rani Chadha of Chennai. Pratiksha Ravi finished runner-up.

The best putter of the tournament was Meghna Bal of Delhi, who, with her 87 putts over 54 holes, stole the show.

Aruna Kolandaivel emerged Stableford winner with 40 points.

The scores (third day):

Gold division: Open: 1. Vaishavi Sinha (227 gross), 2. Sharmila Nicollet (231), 3. Meghna Bal (232); Handicap: Rupa Gurunath (219 nett).

Silver division: Open: 1. Aruna Kolandaivel (257 gross), 2. Aditi Mehta (264), 3. Anita Srinivasan (272); Handicap: 1. Aditi Mehta (204 nett), 2. Aruna Kolandaivel (209).

Bronze division: Open: Rani Chada (299 gross); Handicap: 1. Rani Chada (221 nett), 2. Prathiksha Ravi (221).

Juniors: Open: 1. Vaishavi Sinha (227 gross), 2. Sharmila Nicollet (231), 3. Meghna Bal (232). — Special Correspondent
