Before the advent of television and radio, the traditional art of storytelling was quite popular. The wisdom of the ages was passed from one generation to another through storytelling, which has been the keepsake of history. And now India Habitat Centre in the Capital is hosting a series on "Lost Art of Storytelling in India" on Friday to keep alive the country's vanishing traditions. Mahesh Kumar Mishra along with his troupe will present folktale bards from Datia in Madhya Pradesh titled "Hardol Gayan & Ala Gayan". Stating that a lot of traditions in the country are oral, India Habitat Centre programme director Vidyun Singh says: "It is not so much about documentation. It is our endeavour to source the vibrant art of storytelling from different States of India. We shall first look at exploring and bringing forth the stories from States and regions where language is easy to understand and accessible to a large audience. From there we intend to move into the realm of lesser understood languages but wherein the power of narration transforms and takes the audience beyond words." Madhur Tankha
