Central Social Welfare Board sanctions 250 additional crèches for State

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Social Welfare Board has sanctioned 250 additional crèches to Kerala following the revision of the financial norms of the Rajiv Gandhi National Creche Scheme by the Ministry of Women and Child Development of the Union Government.

The Kerala State Social Welfare Board has invited applications from voluntary organisations registered under the Charitable Societies Registration Act with two years experience for starting these crèches. Details and the application forms can be obtained from the Secretary of the Board, Sasthamangalam, Thiruvananthapuram 10 (Telephone nunbder 0471-2722258) before September 30. The application forms will be accepted till 5 p.m. on October 16. The voluntary organisations should apply with self-addressed, stamped envelope for getting the application form by post.

The crèches are meant for taking care during day time and providing services for the comprehensive development of children up to the age of six of parents whose family income does not exceed Rs.12,000 per month. The strength of a crèche unit has been fixed at 25. Each such unit will be given Rs.42,384 annually to meet the recurring expenditure and Rs.10,000 at the time of commencement of functioning and once in every five years to meet the non-recurring expenditure as grant.

The backward districts of Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod will be given preference in the sanctioning of the new crèches.
