Thousands partake of Ashtami Rohini feast in Aranmula temple

A TRADITION: Snakeboat crew reaching the Sree Parthasarathy Temple ghats in the Pampa at Aranmula for a ritualistic mass feast on Thursday.

ARANMULA (Pathanamthitta district) : The annual ritualistic mass feast, Ashtami-Rohini Vallasadya, was held with religious fervour at Sree Parthasarathy Temple on the banks of the Pampa river in Aranmula on Thursday.

Thousands of devotees from different parts of the State thronged the temple premises to partake of the feast which is believed to bring good fortune and prosperity.

The organisers said 45,000 people attended the mass feast held on Krishna Jayanthi day. Krishna bhajans and `Vanchippattu,' verses in praise of Lord Parthasarathy, rented the air.

Oarsmen from various `karas' in and around Aranmula reached the temple ghats in their snake boats. A pageantry of snake boats was held in the Pampa, as part of the birth anniversary celebrations Ashtami-Rohini celebrations.

The white turbaned oarsmen were accorded a customary reception in traditional style at the temple ghats. The feast was served after the Utchapuja. Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president G. Raman Nair formally inaugurated the feast by serving the food kept before the holy temple mast at 11.25 a.m. C.S. Sujatha , MP; K.C. Rajagopal, MLA; Ashok Kumar Singh, District Collector; the former Aranmula MLA Malethu Saraladevi and Palliyoda Seva Sanghom leaders K.G. Sasidharan Pillai, Prasad Verumkal, Prasannakumar, N.P. Sankaranarayana Pillai and Suresh Babu were present.

Palliyoda Seva Sanghom president K.G. Sasidharan Pillai said snake boat crew from 30 Palliyoda Karayogams partook of the feast.
