PALAKKAD: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy has demanded that the Government ensure admission to all students who have paid fee for admission to professional courses. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Chandy said the Opposition would support any step taken by the Government for ensuring seats to all those who paid fee after getting allotment. He said the pact entered into by private medical college managements and the Government should be extended to engineering and other professional colleges. In Government-controlled self-financing colleges, only the government fee should be charged for 50 per cent of the seats. Mr. Chandy said the accord reached between the Government and the private self-financing college managements was a failure for the former. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government should apologise to the people for its failure to implement the law brought in by it for controlling the private self-financing colleges. The pact was the same as proposed by the Antony Government. The LDF opposed it accusing the Antony Government of helping the private managements. After conducting mass agitations for several years, the LDF Government was now implementing the same policy.
