GUNTUR : Research work is likely to begin soon on cardiovascular device implant therapy at the NRI Heart Centre and Research Institute attached to the NRI Medical College in Chinakakani in Guntur district. A student of the Guntur Medical College Ravi K. Yarlagada, proposes to do a research project here and as a precursor will perform device implant therapy at the hospital from Friday. United States-based Metronic Incorporation -- manufacturers of electro medical & electrotherapeutic equipment will sponsor 12 devices to cater to the poor patients. "This is the first time a live workshop in `cardiac device therapy' will be organised in the country to coincide with implants in eight patients selected by Dr. Ravi," said cardiology head K. Gopala Krishna here at a press conference on Thursday. The workshop would be organised on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and formally declared open by Minister for Finance K. Rosaih at Viajayawada on Saturday evening. The Carioverter Defibrillator, that costs about Rs.40 lakh when imported, would be installed free of cost at the NRI General Hospital, he announced.
