Sabha to discuss quota

Women's conference, public meeting planned

KOLLAM: The 36th State conference of the Kerala Brahmana Sabha (KBS) will be held here on Sunday. The KBS is an organisation of Tamil Brahmins in Kerala.

At a press conference here on Thursday, State president of the KBS P. Venkatarama Iyer and chairman of the conference organising committee N. Hariharan said more than a thousand delegates would attend the meet.

A women's conference, `shobayatra,' public meeting and a delegates' session will be held. Mr. Iyer said they would draft a strategy on issues such as appointment of non-Brahmans as pujaris, reservation in the Devaswom Boards, reservation for higher education and the controversies pertaining to the Sabarimala Temple.

District panchayat president K. Devaki will inaugurate the women's meet. State president, KBS women's wing, Gomathi Mahadevan will preside.

The conference will discuss the problems faced by Brahmin women, the atrocities committed against women and the role of women in sustaining the Brahman culture.

Judge of the Kerala High Court P.R. Raman will be the chief guest at a function to honour members of the community who made outstanding contributions and achievements.

Students from the community who secured ranks in various examinations will also be honoured.

Shobhayatra

The `shobhayatra' will begin at 3.30 p.m. from the Chinnakada Rest House junction and conclude at the conference venue.

Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan will inaugurate the public meeting.

State president of the Yoga Kshema Sabha M.V.S. Namboodiri will address the gathering.
