THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cashew Export Promotion Council of India is organising a three-day international buyer-seller meet, `Kaju India 2006,' at Kovalam, near here, from Friday as part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Participation
At a press conference on Thursday, council's chairman Walter D'Souza said buyers and retailers from abroad and brokers, quality experts, consultants and people from other supporting services would attend the meet, in addition to Indian exporters. The meet is expected to facilitate many new export deals.
Roadmap
The business sessions of the meet will examine the emerging global trends in the cashew sector. The meet would prepare a document `Vision 2020' giving a roadmap for marketing processed cashew nuts from India throughout the world at competitive rates, Mr. D'Souza said. Nearly 75 per cent of the Rs.2,500-crore foreign exchange earnings of Indian cashew industry originated from Kerala, a bulk of it from Kollam region. Mr. D'Souza said the council was trying to get Kollam declared as a `town of export excellence' by the Union Government.
Exim policy
Under the Export-Import Policy of the Union Government, there was provision for declaring a town exporting more than Rs.250 crore worth of any agricultural product as `town of export excellence.' This would make the town eligible for the benefits of special schemes for setting up modern facilities to help its export performance.
