`Despite efforts these obsolete mills could not be revived'

  • Minister said the new sugar policy of the Government has yielded positive results
  • `Rampur Sugar Mill would be revived with an investment of Rs.63 crore'

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Government on Thursday said that out of the 33 sugar mills of the state Sugar Corporation as many as 11 were closed.

These sugar mills could not be revived despite efforts because they had become obsolete.

Replying to a question by Jagadambika Pal of Congress in the Vidhan Sabha, State Energy Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav said the Rampur Sugar Mill would be revived with an investment of Rs.63 crore.

    Pay commission

He said the new sugar policy of the Government had yielded positive results and 28 new private sector sugar mills had been set up in the State during the past years.

In reply to another question in the House, the Government said it would consider setting up a pay commission for the State employees after the sixth pay commission set up for the Central Government employees submitted its recommendations.

Replying on the question by BJP's Luxmi Kant Bajpai, Minister for Revenue Ambika Chaudhary said the Government was ready to face any eventuality arising out of the threat of possible drought in the State owing to scanty rains.

    District magistrates

Ms. Chaudhary said the district magistrates would be asked to send a detailed report about the loss to the standing crops from their respective areas, after which a final assessment would be made. The Minister admitted that there was a drought like condition in some districts owing to scanty rainfall.- PTI
