Hyderabad: Stung by AICC's rebuff in its row with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi on the resignation issue, the State Congress leadership is all at sea over the line to be adopted in staving off the TRS threat. After getting an earful from the high command, none of the party leaders is willing to comment on the TRS directly. PCC president K. Keshava Rao has vowed not to get his fingers burnt over the Telangana issue again.
Summing up
Sports Minister M. Satyanarayana Rao, who was the key player in the resignation drama, aptly described the situation thus: "When the high command cherishes the TRS company, what is there for us to comment." After the resignations of TRS leaders K. Chandrasekhar Rao and A. Narendra from the Union Cabinet, the local leaders perceived that the alliance between the two parties was over and that they could evolve their own strategy to counter TRS. But, the duel with the TRS chief has turned out to be dear for the Congressmen. Mr. Rao's resolve to go ahead with his resignation and contest from Karimnagar has only rubbed salt into their wounds. The Telangana Regional Congress Coordination Committee (TRCCC) leaders are avoiding comments on the developments though some like Palvai Goverdhan Reddy have criticised the PCC president for precipitating the crisis. Party leaders are also conscious of the fact that none of the Congress MLAs and MPs from Telangana are prepared to ignore the Telangana sentiment. Some of them are even preparing to "cross the line" in favouring separate Telangana.
Pat for criticism
Mr. Rao had even patted the Congress MP Madhu Yashki Gowd for criticising his fellow partymen for betraying the cause of Telangana. At least a dozen Congress leaders including two Ministers from the region are said to be in contact with the TRS leadership. Congress MLAs from Nizamabad and Karimnagar are credited with the view that they should keep talking about Telangana till the party expressed itself in favour of separate Telangana. The Pothireddypadu head regulator and the power crisis are the other issues agitating them.
