ANANTAPUR: Eleven persons, including six of two families, were killed and seven injured in five road accidents in Anantapur district on Thursday. A lorry laden with cauliflower moving at high speed from Chikballapur to Raipur, rammed into four road-side hutments and ran over six persons while attempting to overtake an APSRTC bus from the wrong side. The bus was on its way to Bangalore from Hyderabad. The lorry driver fled the scene immediately.Gopal Naidu (35), his wife Jayamma (32), children Vamsi (10) and Vani (8) of one family and Sivaiah (25) and Lalitha (22) of another family were killed on the spot. In Mudireddypalli at Hindupur, a drunken person took the driver's seat of a stationary tractor and started it, while the tractor driver was busy collecting money from women after selling water. The tractor rammed into a roadside tea stall and ran over Nagamuni (60) and Kesavaiah (50), who were sipping tea. A 48-year-old man Vijaykumar of Old Town was run over by a poultry van near the One Town police station. Anuradha Bai (65) was killed in a bus-lorry collision near Pogaruru in Pamidi mandal. The woman was travelling in the Bangalore-Hyderabad RTC bus. An earthmover driver Hussain (42) was killed near J.Kothapalli in Mudigubba mandal when his vehicle collided with a lorry.
