Eight new ones likely to take their place in the draft proposal of Commission

Hyderabad: The draft proposals of the Delimitation Commission for Andhra Pradesh may see eight existing Lok Sabha seats vanishing and giving way to new ones.

The Commission held internal meetings in the last two days to deliberate on the issue and is said to have completed its exercise.

The existing Lok Sabha constituencies that are unlikely to find mention in the next election notification are Bhadrachalam, Miryalaguda, Bobbili, Parvathipuram, Tenali, Tirupati, Hanamkonda and Siddipet.

New seats

The new ones to emerge in the process are Medak (recast), Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Bhongir, Malkajgiri, Chevella, Gudur and Araku.

Khammam, Mahabubabad and Araku are likely to be reserved for Scheduled Tribes and Bapatla, Amalapuram, Peddapalli, Gudur, Chittoor, Eluru and Nagarkunool, for the SCs.

Telangana's share

Telangana region will have two constituencies each reserved for SCs and STs out of 17 while the other regions will have five SC and one ST constituencies.

In respect of delimiting Assembly constituencies, major problems still exist in the districts of Prakasam, Nellore, Anantapur, East and West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur, it is learnt.

Confusion over Godavari

I. Ravi Kumar, a researcher, adds that confusion over the Godavari districts worsened as natural boundaries (of the river) were ignored leading to criticism.

The Delimitation Commission has finalised the lists for 20 States, including Uttar Pradesh and may release the draft paper on Andhra Pradesh in October to facilitate public hearing. The commission has to notify the new proposals by May 31 next year.
