HYDERABAD: Sports Minister M. Satyanarayana Rao said he would abide by any decision of the Congress high command on the resignation letter he sent to the Chief Minister in order to take on the TRS president K. Chandrasekhara Rao from Karimnagar. Mr. Satyanarayana Rao told reporters here on Thursday that the Congress was a national party and it was for the high command to decide on his resignation. "I will abide by its decision whether I like it or not," he added. The Congress party does not want the Telangana Rashtra Samiti leaders to come out of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), he added.
`Childish act'
Meanwhile, Congress MP G. Venkatswamy said he did not foresee any byelection to the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat in the wake of the TRS president's resignation. Terming the entire resignation drama as `a childish act', the senior Congress leader based his prediction on the fact that the AICC had already intervened in the matter. "Both (TRS and Congress) will stay together," he said and went on to add that the TRS had launched a movement and if there was split, it would damage both parties. Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao told reporters on Thursday after meeting the APCC chief K. Keshava Rao at Gandhi Bhavan that the TRS was still with the UPA and acknowledged that the Telangana sentiment was strong. "The movement may tone down but the fact remains that there is strong sentiment," he added. Even parties like the CPI (M) and the CPI also said they would not interfere if a separate Telangana State was created, he added.
`People not ready'
He urged Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao to reconsider his decision to quit the Lok Sabha and said the people were not ready for another election.
