Proposals submitted on blue revolution

HYDERABAD: The National Association of Fishermen (NAF) has submitted its proposals on blue revolution to the Central Government at the governing body meeting of National Fisheries Development Board here last week.

The NAF working chairman, B.S. Chauhan, recommended a number of interventions by the Government for speedy development of fisheries sector, a press release said. — Special Correspondent

Agriculture officer suspended

KURNOOL: Collector M. Dana Kishore has placed under suspension Agriculture Officer Annapurna Devi on the charge of failure to help farmers in distress at Devarabanda village. The Collector also took action against Assistant Director of Agriculture at Dhone Varaprasada Rao by surrendering him to the Commissionerate.

When the Collector and Joint Director Rajesham visited Dhone on Thursday , the Assistant Director was not present in office.— Staff Reporter

TRS dharna today

ADILABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) will stage a dharna in front of Adilabad collectorate on Friday protesting against the power crisis in Telangana. Adilabad MP T. Madhusudan Reddy and Boath MLA Soyam Bapu Rao on Thursday went to the office of the SE, Norther Discom to gather relevant information on power supply.— Staff Reporter

Additional HRA for teachers in tribal areas

HYDERABAD : The Government has issued orders for payment of additional HRA for teachers working in tribal areas. The additional HRA will be payable at 8 per cent of the basic pay not exceeding Rs. 500 from October 10, 2005. Orders to this effect were issued in GOMs No. 264 dated 12-9-2005 of the Finance Department, the State Teachers' Union said on Thursday.— Special Correspondent

Former MLA dead

KURNOOL: Former MLA Mandra Gidda Reddy died after a brief illness on Wednesday. Several Congress leaders expressed their sympathy to the family of Gidda Reddy. He was cremated at his native village Alluru near Nandikotkur on Thursday.

TTD Brahmotsavam posters released

TIRUMALA: M inister for Panchayat Raj and Endowments J.C. Diwakar Reddy on Thursday released festival posters of the nine-day annual Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara scheduled to commence on September 25.

Official arrested on bribe charge

Hyderabad: ACB officials on Thursday arrested G. Manohar, an assistant Divisional Engineer in Sangareddy, on charge of demanding and accepting Rs. 10,000 for issuing an allotment order for electric materials. A bureau press release on Thursday said the official allegedly accepted the bribe from M. Rajesh Naidu for issuing orders in respect of his agricultural lands in Errevelly village of Kondapaka mandal. The tainted amount was recovered. — Special Correspondent

SCR booking counters closed on Sunday

HYDERABAD: Services of current day booking counters, enquiry counters, passengers operated enquiry terminals, inter active voice response system on all the locations of South Central Railway will not be available from 6 p.m. on September 17 to 4 a.m. on the next day due to maintenance works in the passenger reservation system at Secunderabad, according to a press release issued here on Thursday.— Staff Reporter

Credit cards for artisans

TIRUPATI: The Government has sanctioned 600 artisan credit cards for Chittoor district for 2006-07. The District Consultative Committee has given the nod to keep the cards in eight select banks to be distributed among weavers. Each weaver/labourer can get credit up to Rs.25,000 on the card. Madanapalle: A. Babu, Sub-Collector-cum-Divisional Supervisor, has said that objections, if any, in connection with the Chennai-Bangalore pipeline project of Indianoil Corporation Limited may be raised at a meeting to be conducted on September 17 at 11 a.m. in the Zilla Parishad meeting hall, Chittoor. - Correspondent

Arrack seized

Madanapalle: Some 145 litres of arrack was seized by Excise Department officials here on Wednesday. Ponna Venkatramana (Dubbiganipalle), Dasari Rama Murthy (Ramacharlapalle), Sreenivasulu (Mekalavaripalle) and Etukokila Bhaskar (Naramakaulapalle) were arrested. Sub-Inspectors — Prabhudas, Raghuramudu and Bhaskar — carried out the raids. - Correspondent

Chess tournament

KURNOOL: Andhra Pradesh State open prize money chess tournament-2006 was inaugurated by gastroenterologist Sankara Sarma at Nalanda College here on Thursday. He said chess would offer good exercise for improving creativity in individuals.

Principal of Nalanda College D. Ramakrishna Rao, Rayalaseema Cultural and Sports Youth Association secretary Khaja Peera corporator Babu Raju were present.

Workshop on integrated development

Kakinada : A workshop on integrated development of Kakinada city will be held at the municipal corporation conference hall here on Saturday with Minister M. Pallamraju participating as chief guest. Experts from various fields are expected to participate. The JNTU College of Engineering team is expected to give a presentation on boosting the civic body's revenues by proper assessment of property tax making use of satellite pictures. - Correspondent

Bottling plant at Kakinada

Kakinada : The Municipal Corporation is going to enter the mineral water trade shortly with the proposal to start a bottling plant getting finalised, according to K. Venkateswerlu, Municipal Commissioner. The plant with an outlay of Rs.6.5 lakhs, he said, would come up in one of the municipal buildings in the city. The mineral water produced would be initially marketed in 20-litre cans, he added.

Collector releases funds

Srikakulam : The district Collector, V.N.Vishnu, on Friday released Rs.40 lakh to the Roads and Buildings department to reconstruct and renovate the road from the Day and Night junction to the NH-5. After the recent floods its condition had worsened and people have been demanding repairs to it. Mr. Vishnu wanted the works to be completed expeditiously. The Collector also visited the Kodi Ramamurhty stadium that had been battered in the floods. Mr.Vishnu instructed R&B officials to prepare estimates for undertaking repairs. — Special Correspondent

CPI(M) dharna against civic problems

Kakinada : The city unit of the CPI (M) organised dharna in front of the Municipal Corporation office here on Thursday protesting against World Bank reforms and highlighting the civic problems. It demanded improvement of civic amenities and sanitation. Vasamsetti Suryarao city committee secretary and P. Rama Krishnarao, joint secretary besides Gollamudi Nageswerarao the lone CPI (M) Corporator led the dharna.

Khadi awareness programme

ELURU: The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) will organise an awareness programme on Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (REGP) at Sir C.R. Reddy Women's College for Women here on Friday.

Medical camp for children

ONGOLE: Medical camp will be held on the premises of the government hospital here on September 17 to identify children suffering from cardiac problem and arrange free operations to them later, according to district Collector B. Udaya Lakshmi.

Cardiologists and paediatricians from Guntur general hospital and private hospitals will attend the camp.

Another medical camp will be held at Chirala on September 19 for treating patients suffering from fever.

Doctors from Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, will attend the camp. - Special Correspondent

Hostellers demand scholarships

ONGOLE: Inmates of social welfare hostels one and two in Ongole ghearoed Social Welfare Joint Director Siddharthan Reddy demanding immediate release of scholarships.

Mr. Reddy promised payment of scholarships for one year by September 23.

Progressive Democratic Students' Union leaders led the agitation.

Students' Federation of India (SFI) too submitted a memorandum to Mr. Reddy demanding payment of rent to hostels for the last 12 months, regular payment of cosmetic charges, supply of water filters to hostels located in fluoride-affected areas like Kanigiri and Markapur, regular supply of cooking gas to hostels, sanction of scholarships to para-medical students. - Special Correspondent
