Pet clinics in five corporations in the State "Pet owners have for long been asking the department for starting an exclusive clinic"

CHENNAI: The Animal Husbandry Department plans to start pet clinics in five corporations in the State, Geetha Jeevan, Animal Husbandry Minister, said here on Thursday.

Speaking to journalists after inaugurating the pet clinic at R.A.Puram, Ms. Jeevan said the clinic at R.A.Puram was unique and created exclusively to treat pets besides offering services from manicuring to grooming. Depending upon the response from pet owners, the department would start similar clinics in the five other Corporations — Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Tiruchy and Salem. The pet owners could utilise these services by paying a nominal fee, she said.

"Pet owners have for long been asking the department for starting an exclusive clinic, which has come through now," Ms. Jeevan said. The Rs.8 lakh had been spent on renovating the clinic housed at the erstwhile Tamil Nadu Poultry Development Corporation's building, she said.

When asked whether a proposal to introduce animal rescue ambulances, the Minister said the department had proposed to add facilities one after the other. Pet owners can contact Dr. L. Anantha Padmanabhan, the veterinary officer in-charge of the Clinic, by dialling 98840-83457.
