Five held under Goondas Act

They tried to transport rectified spirit from Karnataka to Chennai

CHENNAI : Five persons were detained under the Goondas Act after they were allegedly found transporting 10,500 litres of rectified spirit from Karnataka to Chennai.

According to a Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) officer, during a vehicle check conducted at Koyambedu near here recently, the police intercepted two vehicles and seized rectified spirit stored in 300 plastic containers.

Based on a confession, the police registered a case and arrested Anbu alias Vellai Anbu (32), Gnanaprakasam (32), Siva (32), Shankar alias Arumugam (31) as well as Mallesh (19).

The city Commissioner of Police, Letika Saran, detained the five accused under the Goondas Act, a press note from Prohibition Enforcement Wing said.
