New guest house opened

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on Thursday inaugurated a new Additional Guest House building adjacent to the Government Guest House at Marine Drive.

In his inaugural address, the Chief Minister said the additional rooms at the Guest House should be made available to the public without disrupting official purposes. He said the State had tremendous potential for tourism.

Home, Vigilance and Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, who presided over the function, said the Government was planning an intensive action plan in the tourism sector by strengthening the public sector even while promoting private entrepreneurs. Mr. Balakrishnan said the Government had sanctioned Rs. 4 crore for completing the construction of a Guest House in Mumbai in 50 cents owned by Kerala Tourism there. Similarly, another new structure will be constructed in 50 cents owned by the State Government in Chennai under the direction of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation.

This land was earlier proposed to be handed over to the private sector, he said.
