Krishna Jayanthi celebrated

Processions taken out from 10 places

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hundreds of children dressed up as `Krishnas', `gopikas' and tableaux depicting the various aspects of Krishna's life were the highlights of the `shobhayatras' taken out in the city and various other parts of the district to celebrate Krishna Jayanthi on Thursday.

In the city, processions were held from 10 different places, namely Pettah, Vanchiyoor, General Hospital, Museum, L.M.S., P.M.G., Hanuman Koil, Press Club Junction, Vanross and Housing Board junction. They converged at the Ganapathy temple in Palayam to become Sangamam Shobayatra.

The Sangama Shobayatra was flagged off by Devasom president G. Raman Nair. Thousands of people who lined up on either sides of the road greeted the procession by showering the rally with flower petals. The procession concluded at the Puthirikkandam grounds

Similar processions were also organised at Attingal, Varkala, Nedumangad, Neyyattinkara and Parassala. Shobayatras were also held at Pappanamcode, Nemom, Powdikkonam, Andoorkkonam, Chembazanthi and Kazhakkottam.

ISKON

Over 3,000 guests and well-wishers from across the State attended the Mahakalasabhishekam organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). The programmes were held at the V.J.T. hall. The day started with Bhagavatha Katha Pravachan followed by traditional bhajans, readings from scriptures and chanting.
