NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has directed the police to provide details of cases in which socialite Bina Ramani is an accused or witness. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Kamini Lau on Thursday also asked the Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the Delhi police to investigate destruction of evidence in the Jessica Lall murder case, to inform the court whether Ms. Ramani was an accused or witness in this case. Ms. Lau issued this direction when the prosecution said the SIT was also probing the role of Ms. Ramani in the destruction of evidence. Ms. Ramani is a key witness in the murder case. The magistrate was hearing Ms. Ramani's bail application in a case in which she had allegedly forged papers to claim ownership of the Tamarind Court restaurant in South Delhi, where ramp model Jessica Lall was fatally shot in the early hours of April 30, 1999. The arguments on Ms. Ramani's bail application will continue on Friday. Ms. Lau reminded the police that Ms. Ramani was a witness in a case of violation of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) against the self-styled godman Chandraswami. When Ms. Ramani's counsel said she had helped the prosecution in the Jessica Lall case, Ms. Lau said that so far as she knew about her deposition, she had not helped the prosecution in it. The investigating officer in the cheating-cum-forgery case said Ms. Ramani was married to George Mailhot, a Canadian citizen, at the "Jai Mata Di" farmhouse of alleged extortionist Romesh Sharma on Mehrauli Road in South Delhi.
