It says Government is focusing on southern districts such as Kolar and Bangalore Rural

BIJAPUR: Local MP and former Union Minister Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal on Friday accused the State Government and the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) of neglecting the animal husbandry potential of the north Karnataka region. Speaking at a function organised to inaugurate a cattle bazaar sponsored by the Sri Siddeshwar Haalu Uthpadakara Sangha at Samriddhinagar on the outskirts of the city, he said the Government and KMF had been focusing on southern districts such as Kolar, Bangalore Rural, Hasan and Mandya. Most of the dairy development projects had been launched in the southern region. As a result, people of north Karnataka, particularly Belgaum, Bijapur and Bagalkot districts were forced to sell their milk produce to dairies in Maharashtra at throwaway prices. All these factors had forced him to unveil a comprehensive animal husbandry development project. The association would provide everything related to the profession under one roof. The bazaar would bring buffaloes of high productivity from Haryana and Gujarat and provide them to farmers at the actual cost. Those interested could stay one or two days at the bazaar to evaluate the quantity of milk being produced by the cattle.

The Siddasiri Souhardha Sahakaari Niyamit, a financial arm of the sangha, had a tie-up with commercial banks, through which loans would be arranged for on the spot, he added.
