MADIKERI: Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy has squarely blamed the Union Government for lack of funds for taking up relief work in Kodagu district. He said the district would soon get a relief of Rs. 3 crore. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Shankaramurthy said the Centre had not released the money to take up relief works in the rain-affected areas in the district.
Datta Jayanti
He said Datta Jayanti will be celebrated at Bababudangiri in Chikmagalur district and there should be no more debate on the issue. Reacting to the statement of the Home Minister M.P. Prakash on the issue, he said Mr. Prakash's views were his own and could not be construed as the Government version. On the bribery charges of suspended MLC Janardhan Reddy, Mr. Shankarmurthy said Janardhan Reddy's accusations had no base and it was an attempt to destabilise the Government. Outlining some of the achievements of the Government, Mr. Shankarmurthy said the Government had sanctioned 14 first grade colleges in the State, for which funds were released and land to build the colleges had been identified. The honorarium for guest teachers had been raised to Rs. 5000 a month. About 450 lecturers would soon be appointed through the Karnataka Public Service Commission, Mr. Shankaramurthy added.
