BANGALORE: A search committee headed by Mariamma Varghese, former vice-chancellor of the Mumbai-based S.N.D.T. Women's University, has short listed Srinivas Saidapur, professor of Zoology Department, Karnatak University, Dharwad; S. Chandrashekar, professor, Department of History, Bangalore University; and V.G. Talwar, professor, Department of Library Sciences, University of Mysore; for the post of vice-chancellor of Karnatak University. The committee submitted the list to the Government on September 8. Once the Chief Minister approves the list, it must be approved by Governor and Chancellor T.N. Chaturvedi. The post of vice-chancellor has been vacant after the retirement of M. Khajapeer on July 2, 2006.
Long list
Although there was a long list of aspirants for the post, it appears that the short listed candidates have met the academic and other requirements. Prof. Saidapur is the recipient of the Bhatnagar Award. Prof. Chandrashekar is the dean of arts faculty of Bangalore University. Prof. Talwar served as director of the Academic Staff College, Mysore, and Registrar of the Mysore University.
