BANGALORE: Fired up by the release of more "evidence" to the media, allegedly by the suspended BJP MLC, Janardhan Reddy, in support of his allegation of bribe-taking against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Minister for Forests C. Chennigappa, the Congress has once again urged Governor T.N. Chaturvedi to dismiss the coalition government.

A delegation led by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly N. Dharam Singh called on the Governor on Friday. It reiterated the demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the alleged acceptance of a bribe of Rs. 150 crore by the Chief Minister and Mr. Chennigappa.

It urged the Governor to recommend to the Centre to initiate action against the culprits under the relevant State and Central Acts.

The former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council H.K. Patil, R.L. Jalappa, MP, and party MLAs and MLCs were part of the delegation. A Congress delegation met the Governor on July 20 and placed the same demands before him.

A memorandum was submitted to the Governor containing details of the property allegedly acquired by the Chief Minister and his brothers' family members in the recent past. "Is the steep rise in the bank balances of the family members of the Chief Minister after he took charge as Chief Minister a pure coincidence," it asked.

Documents

The memorandum also contained documents of land said to have been purchased in the name of H. Kavitha, wife of H.D. Balakrishna Gowda (elder brother of the Chief Minister) and bank deposits of Ms. Kavitha.

Mr. Kharge, in the memorandum, urged the Governor to direct the authorities concerned to register criminal cases against Mr. Kumaraswamy and his family members, Mr. Chennigappa and others concerned.

The memorandum said the Chief Minister and his family had used the alleged bribe money to purchase property. The property had been acquired mostly in the names of Ms. Kavitha, K.M. Honnappa and K.M. Jayamma, (father-in-law and mother-in-law of Mr. Balakrishna Gowda) and others, it added.
