Bangalore: Flowers carry many messages. In this case, it is literally so. Gulfarm Blossoms in the city has developed a technology by which messages can be printed on flowers.

S.J.M. Harun of Gulfarm Blossoms told The Hindu on Thursday said that the technology was developed two months ago. "We have been in touch with this foreign company for over a year. Though the concept is ours, we worked together for developing a special hardware and software required for printing messages on flowers," he said.

Mr. Harun, a graduate of the University of Agriculture Sciences, Bangalore, said that they tried to get engineers from the city to work on the project. "However, everybody we contacted was sceptical. We then started scouting for people who would develop the technology for us abroad," he said.

`Talking Flowers'

He said that the flower-retailing sector in the country was unorganised. "With the new technology, Talking Flowers, we hope to bring in a change," he added.

With the specialised technology, Gulfarm Blossoms can print any message on the petals of a flower. "The message can be in any colour. Logos and small photographs can also be printed on the petals. With this, one can truly personalise the flowers and the bouquet," he said.

They have received many orders. "We recently received bulk orders from a bank and a college. Both wanted us to print the logos of their institutions. Flowers were given to all those who came to the event - a meeting in case of the bank and annual day in case of the college," Mr. Harun said.

He said that he aimed at owning a farm for floriculture business. Mr. Harun said "Talking Flowers" was showcased at the Flora Expo, said to be South Asia's largest floriculture expo, held in Delhi recently. "We welcome franchisees. Anybody who is interested in setting up franchisees can get in touch with us. We plan to be the beginning and end with regard to floral needs of the people," he said.

Gulfarm Blossoms is in the process of setting up a website. Mr. Harun can be contacted on Ph.: 32509481 or 9886374006.
