HUBLI: The JNNURM-Kalasa Banduri Nala Implementation Joint Action Committee has decided to withdraw its weeklong agitation, which it had planned to begin on Sunday, in the wake of the Chief Minister's promise to act on the committee's demand. The committee had planned to launch an agitation if the State Government failed to send a proposal to the Centre for including the twin cities under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, honorary president of the committee Anilkumar Patil said that the committee had decided to withdraw its agitation in the wake of the promise by Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti that the State Government would send a proposal to the Union Government on Monday. He said that Chief Minister H.D. Kumarswamy during his telephonic conversation with Mr. Horatti in the presence of the committee members had promised to take action. Meanwhile, in a press release issued here on Saturday, Mr. Horatti said that the State Government did not want to lose a chance that would help in the comprehensive development of the twin cities. Mr. Horatti said that he had discussed the matter with the Chief Minister who had promised him that apart from sending the proposal, an all-party delegation would be taken to New Delhi to impress upon the Union Government.
