NEW DELHI: The Kerala CBSE Schools Management Association has sought the intervention of the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Arjun Singh in ensuring the availability of school textbooks for the current academic session brought out by the National Council for Education, Research and Training (NCERT). In a memorandum submitted to Mr. Singh, the association, representing 560 schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in the State, said four months had elapsed since the current academic year started but the NCERT books were not been made available to the schools. The schools were either managing with the help of photocopies of the textbooks or Internet. The association pointed out that the NCERT frequently changed its syllabus and the textbooks without giving sufficient notice to the schools. Change of syllabus and books of lower classes should be done before the commencement of the academic year and not in the middle of the session, it said. The association reiterated its demand for setting up a regional or sub-regional CBSE office in Kerala. Copies of the memorandum were presented to the Minister of State for HRD M.A.A. Fatmi and CBSE chairperson Ashok Ganguly.
