Minister to give away State tourism awards

  • Kannur District Tourism Promotion Council gets best DTPC award
  • Taj Malabar, Ernakulam bags best five star deluxe hotel award

    KOZHIKODE: Minister for Home and Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will distribute the State Tourism Awards at a function here on Sunday.

    Travel Corporation India, has bagged the award for being host to the largest number of tourists and for earning the most in foreign currency. Great India Tour Company will receive the award for the best tour operator.

    The award for the best one star hotel will go to `Periyar House' of Kumily. Hotel Samudra has been adjudged the best two star hotel. Marari Beach of Mararikulam has bagged the best three star hotel award. Spices Village has been named the best four-star hotel. Taj Residency has been adjudged the best five star hotel.

    In the five star de luxe category, Taj Malabar, Ernakulam bagged the award. Hotel Coconut Lagoon has been adjudged the heritage hotel and Somatheeram Centre, the best Ayurveda centre.

    The best home stay facility centre is `Tranquil' of Kolakappara in Wayanad.

    Rainbow Cruises has been adjudged the best houseboat operator. `Aram' of Kayamkulam has been named the best motel. Spices Village of Thekkady gets the award for the institution that has implemented environmental friendly tourism project.

    Kannur District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has been named the best DTPC. K.S. Rajasekharan of Doordarshan won the award for the director of the best documentary related to tourism. Tampi Mathew won the best tourism police award.

    Sen Katherine HS, Wayanad has been named the best tourism club. Sumitha Sekhar and Dr. Sheela Pappu have been selected as the best school tourism club coordinator and best tourism club teacher coordinator respectively.

    Industries Minister Elamaram Karim will preside over the function. T.K. Hamza, MP, Mayor M. Bhaskaran, K. Muhammedunni Haji, MLA, Kerala State Tourism Development Corporation chairman Cherian Philip, Tourism Principal Secretary E.K. Bharatbhushan, Kozhikode District Collector A. Jayatilak, Malappuram District Collector K.S. Premachandrakurup and Tourism Director B. Suman will participate.
