HYDERABAD: If Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K.Chandrasekhar Rao contests the by-election for Karimnagar Lok Sabha consitutency as a member of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), the Congress may not field its candidate. In the event of the TRS breaking away from the UPA, then the ruling party will evolve its own strategy. (Mr. Rao had announced resignation as MP from Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat recently). Disclosing this at a press meet on Saturday, APCC president K. Keshava Rao said his party was more committed to the Telangana sentiment than others and its strength in the region had also not diminished. In fact "others have to depend on our strength to win here," he said. Meanwhile, Nizamabad MP Madhu Yashki Goud, who adopted a strident posture in favour of Telangana in the last two days, changed tack claiming he was misquoted. Joining Mr. Rao's press conference, he said he had never criticised Telangana Regional Congress Coordination Committee leaders like G. Chinna Reddy. The latter had been dedicatedly serving the people of the region for long and there was no reason for him to criticise anybody. Mr. Goud said his effort was to counter the TRS charge that the Congress had betrayed Telangana. The Congress was more committed to the welfare and sentiment of Telangana than anybody else. Dr. Keshava Rao added that Siddipet MP Sarve Satyanarayana was also similarly misquoted. "The problem is more with a section of the media," he said.
