KADAPA: Minister for Information and Power Mohd. Ali Shabeer on Saturday asked police officials and personnel to gain expertise in new technologies in order to counter the designs of criminals. Addressing the closing ceremony of 49th Andhra Pradesh State Police Duty Meet 2006 at Police Parade Grounds here, he said criminals were adopting newer technologies to commit crimes in society. He lauded the police for seizure of rocket launchers and large-scale ammunition in Mahabubnagar and Prakasam districts. He gave away gold medals to winners of various events. Director-General of Police (Training) Ram Avatar Yadav laid emphasis on curbing the rapidly growing cyber crimes. Police officials and personnel should keep themselves abreast of scientific and technological developments across the world. Plans were afoot to send two technology magazines to each police station in the State to enable the police to hone their knowledge of technological innovations, he said. Gaining awareness of likely happenings in advance would help police face newer challenges with efficacy, Mr. Yadav said. Cyber crimes based on computers and internet knowledge were growing and scope for usurping one's bank accounts from other nations was likely, he cautioned. Hence police should gain expertise in handling digital evidence, he said. He gave away silver and bronze medals to event winners.
Cash award
The Government announced cash award of Rs. 20,000 and two advance increments to police personnel winning gold medals at All-India Police Duty Meet, slated at Chennai from January 13 to 18, 2007, Inspector-General of Police (Sports) Rajwant Singh said. Silver medallists would get a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 and one increment while bronze medallists would get a prize of Rs. 10,000, he said. Mr.Singh stressed the need for narco-analysis, brain mapping and polygraph tests to face challenges of white and blue-collar crimessuch as the Telgi scam. An organized criminal intelligence system was needed, he said. Police should be wary of human rights which were gaining the stature of fundamental rights, the IGP said. Zilla Parishad chairperson D. Jyothi Reddy, MLAs Md. Ahmedullah, N. Varadarajulu Reddy and G. Mohan Reddy, IDP (Rayalaseema) Sambasiva Rao, DIG Kurnool Range K.R.M. Kishore Kumar, Kadapa SP Y. Nagi Reddy and other officials took part.
