India-Australia match abandoned

Special Correspondent

Chennai: Left-arm paceman Mitchell Johnson's incisive four-over burst of 4 for 11 could not provide Australia a victory in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. Inclement weather ended the DLF Cup tri-series contest when India, chasing a revised target of 170 in 29 overs, was struggling at 35 for 5 in eight overs. Both teams secured two points each from the match.

Swinging the new ball both ways, Johnson scalped India captain Rahul Dravid, Irfan Pathan, Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh. Virender Sehwag was run out.

Since a minimum of 20 overs could not be completed in the Indian innings, the match had to be abandoned.

Earlier, Australia, which opted to bat, was dismissed for 244 in 49.2 overs. All-rounder Shane Watson, who opened the innings, top-scored with a 74-ball 79. Michael Clarke contributed 64. For India, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was the pick, claiming two wickets for 26 runs in 10 overs. Paceman Munaf Patel prised out three batsmen. After two games each, Australia has seven points, West Indies five, and India two.
