HASSAN: Minister for Public Works and Energy H.D. Revanna has said the Government has decided to release Rs. 125 crore for constructing buildings in newly sanctioned high schools and pre-university colleges across the State this academic year. Inaugurating a function organised by the Department of Public Instruction to mark "Teachers' Day" in Holenarsipur on Friday, he said the Government would take steps to provide basic infrastructure and teaching staff in the schools and colleges in the next three months. He said the Government was planning to open more pre-university colleges to meet the requirement of rural students next year . He called upon teachers to improve the standard of education in government schools as it would instil confidence among rural students to compete with their counterparts in urban areas. He said it was the responsibility of teachers to put Hassan on top with respect to education in the State. He recalled that former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda had not only taken steps for the recruitment of 85,000 teachers in the State during his tenure in office and reserved 50 per cent of posts for women. The Janata Dal (Secular)-led coalition Government was committed to strengthening the education system, he added. President of the zilla panchayat Annappa Shetty, former MP H.K. Javare Gowda and Deputy Director of Public Instruction Dena Nayak were present .
