BELLARY: The Hospet Police in Bellary district have arrested five members of Haran Shikari gang and recovered weapons, including a single barrel gun from them. The arrest has solved as many as ten cases of robbery and dacoity committed in Bellary, Koppal and Davanagere districts. Paul Amrit, Superintendent of Police, told presspersons here on Saturday that based on credible information a gang was camping in a dilapidated building near the railway bridge on the outskirts of Hospet city. A police team conducted the raid. Four persons managed to escape. According to him, the gang had committed several offences of highway robbery and dacoity. The gang also attacked isolated houses. Mr. Paul said that Panju (28) resident of Gummanur in Andhra Pradesh, was involved in 22 cases of dacoity, robbery and murder and was released from jail nine months back after serving eight years of imprisonment. The names of the other arrested are Chunchappa (48) of Yadramanahalli in Hagari Bommanahalli taluk, Dilip (28), Raghu (26) and Chandra (32) all residents of Pakshirajpur in Mysore district. Police are on the look out for the other four members of the gang. Mr. Paul commended the efforts of his staff in apprehending a notorious gang.
