HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the High Court headed by the Chief Justice on Friday declared that it was the duty of the officers to file counter affidavits immediately in cases pertaining to larger public interest. The Bench was expressing its displeasure at the failure of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in filing counter affidavit in the writ petition complaining about allotment of a part of land for a publishing house for over four months. Venkataramana Reddy, Secretary, HUDA, appeared in person before the Bench and apologised for the delay and informed the court that by Monday the counter affidavit along with all the relevant documents, would be placed before the court. The Bench adjourned the case to next week. Meanwhile, a Division Bench directed the Principal Secretary, Medical and Health, to submit a comprehensive report about the care taken by the State to give solace to children affected with AIDS. The Bench was dealing with a taken up writ petition complaining about the spread of AIDS. The Bench wanted the authorities to spell out the steps taken by the Medical and Health Department.
