Kuala Lumpur: Indians, Shiv Kapur and Gaurav Ghei, lost their touch when they required it most and produced their worst show of the week as India's hopes for a World Cup berth was buried in the greens of the Seri Selangor Golf Club here on Saturday. Placed second after the penultimate round, the Indian pair eventually finished joint third and the top two teams of the qualifiers, Singapore and Italy, booked their spots to the Barbados World Cup. The Singaporean pair of Mardan Mamat and Lam Chih Bing, who led since the second round, scored a one-under 70 in the foursomes format and finished on top with a four-day winning total of 13-under 271. It was a disappointing finish for both Kapur and Ghei as they slipped on the final day with 76 in joint third spot alongside the Swiss pair of Martin Rominger and Nicolas Sulzes, who finished level-par. The scores (final round): Foursomes: 271: Singapore (Mardan Mamat/ Lam Chih Bing, 65-73-63-70); 278: Italy (Emanuele Canonica/ Francesco Molinari, 68-75-64-71); 280: Switzerland (Martin Rominger/ Nicolas Sulzes, 70-74-65-71) and India (Shiv Kapur/ Gaurav Ghei, 68-70-66-76).
