Modern sewerage network for Hi Tec City soon

Special Correspondent

Tenders for first phase to be finalised by third week of this month

  • Works to take six months for completion
  • APIIC, HUDA, Serilingampally municipality joint funding for Rs.40 crore proposal

HYDERABAD: The technology hub of Hi Tec City and its surroundings will have a modern sewerage network in four to six months time with the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) readying a blueprint for completing the first phase works by then.

Tenders for the first phase of the project involving laying of pipelines in the area at a cost of Rs. 10.50 crores have been called for and will be finalised by the third week of September.

The works will take about four to six months for completion, according to an official spokesperson of the HMWSSB.

The proposal to lay sewerage lines in the area was in a limbo for two full years with the players involved - Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA), Seri Lingampally municipality and HMWSSB - at loggerheads given the huge funds required for the key infrastructure improvements in setting up a sewerage network.

The State Government had cleared a Rs. 40 crores proposal to lay sewer mains and underground drainage in the Hi Tec City area with APIIC chipping in 50 per cent of the cost (Rs. 20 crores), HUDA 40 per cent (Rs.16 crores) and Serilingampally municipality 10 per cent (Rs. 4 crores) following the intervention of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy himself at a high-level meeting on July 4.

    First phase

For the first phase works, the HUDA and APIIC agreed to release Rs. 7 crores and Rs. 4 crores respectively at a meeting held this week.

The works include laying of RCC pipes of 350mm diameter to 600 mm diameter over a distance of 2.6 k.m. from L&T Infocity to the sewerage treatment plant under construction at Durgan Cheruvu; 300mm diameter to 450mm diameter pipes from HITEX Convention Centre to Khanamet, National Academy of Construction and from there to Thummidikunta and Madhapaur, a distance of 2.7 k.m.

Similarly, pipes of 300 mm diameter and 350 mm diameter would be laid along the 1.1 k.m. stretch from Kavuri Hills to Madhapur and 1.65 k.m long Kondapur-HITEX Convention Centre stretch.

Another pipeline of 250 mm diameter to 400 mm diameter would be laid from Whitefields to National Academy of Construction junction, a distance of 1.75 k.m.

Modern sewerage network has eluded the entire city and the surrounding municipalities.
