Postmen to gain from poll roll revision

They will be paid Rs. 4 for every address verified as part of the exercise


  • Post office in-charge to be designated officer
  • Postmen to be paid Rs. 35 per day
  • Postal staff urged to extend cooperation

    HYDERABAD: Each postman will be paid Rs. 4 for every address verified and Rs. 35 per day from the date of draft publication till last date of receipt of claims for their role in revision of electoral rolls.

    Further, Rs. 400 will be paid to every delivery post office and Rs. 300 to a non-delivery post office as supervisory charges for the exercise, informed the Chief Electoral Officer, Bhaskar, on Saturday.

    Addressing senior postal department and revenue officials at a one-day workshop organised by Election Commission of India, he said post offices were the most visited places and hence, the best source for assistance in verification and enrolment of voters. He urged the postal staff to extend their cooperation to improve the quality of work with regard to revision of electoral rolls.

    The in-charge of post office will be the designated officer and has to display electoral rolls, make available forms for public for inclusion, deletion and correction.Specific instructions were given to postal persons not to receive applications in bulk by representatives of political parties, resident welfare associations, housing societies, etc.

    Documentary proof

    Only forms filled in and complete with documentary proof of residence, age, etc., will be accepted. The electoral registration officer concerned will collect all forms received by the designated officer. Additional CEO Phani Kumar, MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju, Director of Postal Services Venkateshwarlu and Additional Commissioner (Elections) G. Ravi Babu attended the workshop.
