Grille offender strikes again

Staff Reporter

TAMBARAM: Nothing seems to be stopping the grille offender who has struck yet again in the southern suburbs. The latest victim being the house of a couple, both central government employees at Balaji Nagar in Puzhuthivakkam. Jagannathan, working with a nationalised bank in Saidapet and his wife, working as a booking clerk at the Guindy railway station, had locked their house and left for work on Friday morning.

When they returned around 9 p.m., they noticed a portion of the rear window grille cut open, the almirah broken and gold jewels weighing 25 sovereigns burgled. The Madipakkam police and special crime teams are conducting investigations. Yet again, the offender is reported to have operated in the evening and managed to escape without leaving behind even a trace of clue or being noticed by anybody.

The grille offender has been giving sleepless nights to the police in the southern suburbs of Chennai who are yet to receive any lead to trace the culprit. The offender has struck in about a dozen places in the suburbs in the past couple of months.

While the police have managed to virtually eliminate the menace of bureau pulling following the arrest of one Settu last month, the grille offender's ease in striking at will has been causing alarm.
