Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Muthialpet on Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Special rebate

Khadi and Village Industries Commission has announced a special rebate of 10-30 per cent on all varieties of khadi such as cotton, woollen, silk, polyester and readymade clothes effective from September 15 until October 20, on all days except Sundays.

Periyar's birth anniversary

The All India Radio, Chennai, will broadcast over Chennai A 720 KHz at 7 p.m. on Sunday, a talk on Periyar by Ki. Veeramani to commemorate Periyar's birth anniversary.

Electronic clearing service at post offices

The Department of Posts has introduced electronic clearing service for monthly income scheme in post offices from Wednesday.

Those, who wish to avail themselves of this facility, must fill in the mandatory form, have it attested by the bank and submit it to the post office where they hold the accounts.

The interest amount will be directly credited to the customer's bank account from the following month.

The service is available at Chennai GPO, and at the head post offices in Anna Road, Park Town, Mylapore, Tambaram, St. Thomas Mount, and post offices in Anna Nagar, Greams Road and Teynampet.

Training programme

Inter-collegiate competition

Muthamizh vizha celebrated

Valliammal College for Women in Anna Nagar celebrated Muthamizh vizha last week. Lecturers from several city colleges spoke. Poet Piraisoodan, Viveka and Snehan also participated. Students presented a historical play and traditional dances such as `Bharathanatyam', `Karagattam,' and `Thappattam'.

Project week for nursery students

Nursery students of Kaligi Ranganathan Montford Matriculation Higher Secondary School participated in a project week, where they learnt their lessons by doing projects for a week. Their teachers assisted the children in their projects.
