Collector's directive to election officers

Kochi: Those who have been appointed as election officers for the panchayat byelections in the district on September 19 are directed to report for duty on September 18. District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish has said that stringent action will be taken against those who fail to appear for the election duty. The Collector requested the heads of public and private sector offices in the areas where the byelections are conducted to make the necessary arrangements for the public to cast their vote. - Staff Reporter

Youth for peace

KOCHI: Various panels at the ongoing World Fellowship of Inter-Religious Councils here on Saturday discussed ways to confront injustice, violence and corruption. The day was marked by discussions by youth and presentations by them on the issues related to peace and justice. A report on the draft findings of the Assembly will be presented on Sunday. Former judge of the Supreme Court V.R. Krishna Iyer will deliver the valedictory address. K. S. Radhakrishnan, Vice-Chancellor of the Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, and Jancy James, Vice-Chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi University, will be present as guests of honour. - Staff Reporter

Power supply to be disrupted

KOCHI: Power supply will be disrupted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 18, 19 and 22 from the Tatapuram, Mulavukad and Malipuram sub stations of the KSEB. This is because of work on the 220 KV multi-circuit tower of the Board near the Amrita Hospital, Edapally. Power supply will be fully disrupted in Mulavukad, Vallarpadam and Fort Vypeen-Munambam on these days. Power supply will be partially disrupted in MG Road, Marine Drive, Banerjee Road, TD Road, Market Road, Press Club Road, SRM Road, Pullepady Road, Cemetery Junction, Power House Road and High Court areas, the executive engineer of Kalamassery transmission division of the Board, has said. - Staff Reporter

Bank forum seeks probe

KOCHI: The United Forum of Lord Krishna Bank Unions has said that talks held with the bank management have failed following the "negative" attitude of the management. The Forum said that the steps which led to the proposal for the bank's merger with the Centurion Bank of Punjab must be probed. - Staff Reporter

HelpAge India gesture

KOCHI: The HelpAge India will give medicines and counselling to 100 inmates of the Palluruthy Relief Settlement. Southern India director of the organisation Indrani Rajadorai handed over a cheque of Rs. 1.5 lakh to the People's Council for Social Justice, says a press release. - Staff Reporter
