Staff Reporter

Special programme on Einstein inaugurated

  • Programme has been sponsored by Infosys Foundation and produced by the planetarium
  • Sudha Murthy promises support to programmes that spread knowledge

Bangalore: "The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is known for screening good shows about the stars and our universe as a way of imparting non-formal science education. By screening special programmes on scientists, it has taken its mission a step forward," said Ramachandra Gowda, Minister for Science and Technology.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a special programme on "Albert Einstein-a glimpse of greatness" by the planetarium here on Saturday.

Sudha Murthy, chairperson of Infosys Foundation, who inaugurated the programme, said that one should not remember scientists by their names alone. By organising such events, people should commemorate the achievements of the scientists. She said the Infosys Foundation was committed to spreading knowledge and would always extend support to activities aimed in that direction.

U.R. Rao, former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), spoke. The new planetarium programme, "Albert Einstein-a glimpse of greatness", was screened in Kannada. It is a 40-minute audio-visual sky-theatre programme that encapsulates the genius of Einstein.

The programme has been sponsored by Infosys Foundation and produced by the planetarium. It essentially deals with the works of the man that made him a living legend in his own time.

The Kannada version of the programme will be screened every day, except Mondays, at 3 p.m., while the English version will be screened at 4.30 p.m. There will be four shows on Sundays.
