Mandal Samakhyas urged to fight against social evils

`Providing medical facilities to rural folk is the need of the hour'

VIJAYAWADA : Krishna district Collector Navin Mittal on Sunday advised Mandal Samakhyas to play an active role in creating awareness among people residing in rural areas about the laws made by the Government to fight against social evils.

Addressing a review meeting on medical insurance scheme for the poor proposed by Dr. Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Medical College here, he said providing medical facilities to rural folk was the need of the hour. Mr. Mittal said the Government introduced schemes like `Janani Suraksha Yojana' for the benefit of pregnant women from below poverty line, under which Rs. 1,000 would be given to women after delivery. Medical college director Ch. Nageswara Rao said under the scheme, each family would pay a premium of Rs. 360 per year.
