THRISSUR: Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran presented the G. Kumara Pillai Award, instituted in memory of the social activist and poet, to Sarang Gopalakrishnan and Vijayalakshmi at a function held here on Sunday. The award, instituted by Kochi-based Poornodaya Book Trust, is given to individuals, institutions and literary works, for contribution in the propagation of Gandhian ideals. Mr. Gopalakrishnan and Ms. Vijayalakshmi were selected for the award for their book `Thangavunna Vidyabhyasam' (Affordable education). The award carries a cash prize of Rs.5001 and a citation. President of the G. Kumara Pillai Memorial Committee and Gandhi Peace Foundation I.M. Velayudhan presided over the function. Sahithya Akademi Secretary P.V. Krishnan Nair delivered the G. Kumara Pillai memorial lecture.
