Telangana triggers row among Congress MPs

Special Correspondent

War of words is on between representatives from the region and Andhra

S. Satyannarayana

HYDERABAD: The controversy over the Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief, K. Chandrasekhar Rao's decision to resign from Lok Sabha and to pull out of UPA, seemed to have triggered an inter-regional war of words among Telangana and Andhra MPs of Congress.

Congress MPs from Telangana, Sarvey Satyanarayana (Siddipet) and Madhu Yaskhi Goud (Nizamabad), who openly supported separate statehood, reacted strongly to the remarks made against them by party colleagues, Lagadapati Rajagopal (Vijayawada) and Union Minister, Renuka Chowdary.

They termed the remarks "disparaging" and were in a manner provoking people of Telangana.

L. Rajagopal

At a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Satyanarayana took exception to the manner in which he was "humiliated" by Mr. Rajagopal, at the Vijayawada Town Congress Committee meeting on Saturday. Mr. Rajagopal had objected to the reported claim made by Mr. Satyanarayana that he had won by wearing "pink kanduva" of the TRS.

To lodge complaint

"I will lodge a complaint with the high command, the PCC president and the Chief Minister demanding action against Mr. Rajagopal. Twenty two lakh voters of my constituency were hurt", he said. He went on to warn that "People will not allow Mr. Rajagopal to come to Hyderabad if he did not change his attitude".

He urged the TRS chief, K. Chandrasekhar Rao to reconsider his decision to quit Lok Sabha.

Reacting to the remarks made by Union Minister Renuka Chowdary suggesting that he was a "political novice", Mr. Goud said it was wrong on her part to have commented like that when he too was elected by people as MP.
