Thiruvananthapuram
Special Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram: The district panchayat, which met here on Saturday, adopted a resolution urging the Government to include Thiruvananthapuram in the paddy procurement scheme. Moving the resolution, panchayat vice-president B.P. Murali said 3,800 hectares of land in the district was under paddy cultivation. Of this, 2,600 hectares were being cultivated under the Integrated Paddy Farming Development Scheme taken up by three-tier panchayats. The resolution said farmers from Thiruvananthapuram would derive the benefit of the procurement only if the district was brought under the scheme. The motion was adopted unanimously. District panchayat president Anavoor Nagappan said he had received complaints that a few unaided schools were preparing question papers on their own, ignoring the Government's directive for uniform question papers across the State. Mr. Nagappan said officials of the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan had conducted an inquiry into the complaint. The meeting authorised the General Education Deputy Director to submit a report after a thorough probe into the matter.
