HYDERABAD: The death of an IIT student in a private hospital at Punjagutta on Sunday triggered protests with ABVP activists staging a demonstration in front of the hospital alleging that the student died due to doctors' negligence. Twentyfour-year-old P. Satish of Kokalgudem in Ramagundem was admitted to the hospital a week ago as he was suffering from a liver problem. The health condition of Satish deteriorated after a blood transfusion resulting in his death, the activists alleged.
Activists raised slogans demanding action against negligent doctors. Satish's father Sudhakar said he was promised y doctors that his son was recovering fast and would be fine in a fortnight. "But my son developed sudden complications after he was given blood transfusion. We suspect something went wrong during this stage following which my son died," Mr. Sudhakar, a grocery shop owner, said. Satish was pursuing his education from IIT, Guwahati. He was supposed to complete his course within three months, family members said.
Case of negligence
When contacted, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Banjara Hills) T.V. Raj Gopal said a case of negligence under Section 304 (A) of the IPC was registered against hospital staff.
