HYDERABAD: School Education Minister N.Rajyalakshmi on Monday defended the Government's move to entrust the next round of recruitment of teachers to the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission, saying there was nothing wrong in it. Replying to a question at a press conference, she said her department's academic work was getting affected, as nearly four months were consumed by the process. Besides, the APPSC's main responsibility was job recruitment. However, she said nothing was being conducted "tomorrow." This was not the final decision. The Government would consider reverting to the old system if there were any deficiencies and everyone wanted it. Giving details of a review by Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy of the Women, Child and Disabled Welfare Department, she said appointment of 9,562 Anganwadi workers and helpers would be completed by October-end. As part of the Indiramma scheme, it was decided to construct Anganwadi centres in schools with NABARD assistance. Ms.Rajyalakshmi said the meeting decided to construct 10,890 Anganwadi centre buildings and 4,000 of them at a cost of Rs. 40 crores. It decided to provide supplementary nutrition to 13.5 lakh children and lactating mothers under the Integrated Child Development Scheme. She said Child Welfare Committees and Juvenile Justice Boards were recently constituted in all districts.
