Visakhapatnam
Special Correspondent
VISAKHAPATNAM : The Greater Visakha unit of Telugu Desam filed a petition with the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation alleging the delimitation of GVMC Divisions was done unilaterally and would lead to many problems. In a representation submitted to the GVMC, which sought public opinion on delimitation of Divisions, the TDP unit president C.M.A. Zaheer Ahmed, former MLAs P.G.V.R. Naidu and Palla Simhachalam, and others, suggested some changes to be made to the exercise.
Change impact
The existing revenue boundaries had been changed resulting in some Divisions having an area of two km or less while some extended from eight km to 10 km.
Boundaries
This would result in administrative problems. There was no need to decide the boundaries of a Division according to the area when population was said to be the criteria, said Dr. Zaheer Ahmed. Divisions 3, 7, 55, 56 and 57 were very large in area and if they were accepted, the problems faced in the past with the 23rd and 44th Divisions in the then Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation would be repeated, he explained.
