M.S. Subbalakshmi's birth anniversary celebrated

IN FOND REMEMBRANCE: Cine star of yesteryear Akkineni Nageswara Rao garlanding the portrait of M.S. Subbalakshmi on the occasion of her 90th birth anniversary in Hyderabad on Monday.

HYDERABAD: The 90th birth anniversary of M.S. Subbulakshmi was celebrated at Rishi U.B.R. PG College for Women, Kukatpally, on Monday, with Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Akkineni Nageswara Rao as the chief guest. Mr. Nageswara Rao, who is to celebrate his 83rd birthday on September 20, assured the gathering that he would continue to act till his end, having completed six decades in the film field. He presented the M.S. Subbulakshmi Memorial Award to Sunitha, a well-known classical and playback singer and dubbing artiste.

The award was instituted to perpetuate the stalwart's memory as the college had her guidance and moral support for 18 years, according to the principal.

P.Vaman Rao, former Director of Information and Public Relations, presided.
