Oil firms accused of violating norms
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
The Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners' and Agents' Association has alleged that the major oil companies, instead of monitoring the highest degree of safety precautions, were guilty of violating the norm of carrying only 12 kilolitres of gas to the petrol bunks.
In a release, the federation alleged that even 18 kilolitres were being carried to the bunks, causing panic.
This also created congestion for other vehicles arriving at the bunks, and caused danger to the entire surroundings.
"These oil companies further fail to educate their drivers about parking their vehicles at specific areas/bylanes."
The federation said it was a common scene on the main roads and highways, where the drivers of the oil firms parked their vehicles haphazardly, leading to accidents.
Operators blamed
On the reported oil pilferage, the federation blamed certain truck operators whose poorly paid lower cadre drivers looked for alternative sources of livelihood. However, the federation did not support or encourage the offenders, the release said.
