THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An exhibition featuring books on self-development was inaugurated at the British Library here by Chris Gibson, Director, South India, British Council, on Tuesday. The exhibition features 273 books on various aspects of self-development, such as preparation of CVs, methods to prepare for interviews, IQ and psychometric tests and body language. These books, which will eventually be included in the library's collection, are aimed at attracting the youth to the library and enable them to acquire skills necessary for professional development. This, according to library manager T.K. Subramoni, is in keeping with the library's intention to stop being a centre for mere leisure reading. "We wish to convert the library into an activity-oriented centre that has an impact on the personal and professional lives of the youth. Today's libraries are also centres for socialising," he added. Books on display deal with public speaking, negotiation skills, presentation and communication skills, letter writing, essay writing and the basics of e-mails. Those looking for guidance on confidence building, maintaining a work-life balance, leadership, positive thinking and positive living, time management, stress management and the basics of teamwork will not be disappointed. Similarly, there are books that help those looking for a career abroad and give tips for managing business ventures. Scholars intending to do research may get a tip or two on the dos and don'ts of research work. There are even tips for employees tormented by their superiors in a book that lists ways to deal with the ``nasty boss'' without stooping to his level. The exhibition will be on till September 25. According to a press note by the library, more books will soon be added to the self-development collection.
